Reading Challenge!

Kia Orana,

This week we have started our school wide reading challenge which will run until week 6.
Each student has been given a bingo style form with different types and styles of books for them to try and read. Their reading challenge forms have been glued into their pink notebooks.
You could support your child by taking them to a public library and helping them choose some interesting stories and listening to their readers each night.
Please help your child to read as many books as possible and initial and date the box once they have completed each relevant story.

Thank you for your support,

Spelling Lists

Welcome Back!

I hope you have all had a wonderful break.

Room 3 have hit the ground running this term and are straight back into our classroom routines with one new addition - spelling lists.

Every Monday your child will receive a list of words in their pink notebook for them to practice. It would be great if you could help them learn to recognise, write and spell the words or letters they have been given so that they are reading for our spelling test on Fridays.

Thank you for your support,
Miss Barratt.

Folk Dancing!

This term we have learnt several different folk dances. We have been practicing listening to the music, trying to keep in time to the beat, dancing with a partner or in a group and using our arms and legs at the same time.

Here are a few photos of our awesome dance moves!

Auckland Zoo Trip!

On Friday the 17th June the Year One Kea team went to the Auckland Zoo.

In class we have been learning about different animals and their habitats. We saw heaps of cool animals and learnt a lot about native New Zealand birds.

Here are some photos from our day out...

Room 3 are Smarty Pants!

In room 3 we read the book "Smarty Pants" by the New Zealand author Joy Cowley.

We talked about all the clever things the character could do in the story and then brainstormed some of the clever things we could do - the things that made us Smarty Pants.  We then made our own Smarty Pants. They look pretty cool if we do say so ourselves...

Here are some photos of our finished Smarty Pants.

Measurement

Today in maths we learnt about measurement.

We had to trace our feet and measure them using a non standard unit of measurement. We used cubes.
We now know that we can measure things to find out how long or short they are. We found that Miss Barratt had the longest feet in the class and that many of us had the same sized feet.
Here are some pictures of our super work.

Thanks for stopping by,
